There are endless explanations, opinions, prophecies, and stories that are evolve around the number 11, however, that’s the one that stuck out to me! There are tons of couples getting married on 11-11-11, tons of Facebook statuses and Twitter feeds with endless meanings. What does 11-11-11 mean to you?

Expectations

Lauryn Hill said it best “It could all be so simple, but [we] rather make it hard”. There is no real struggle in wanting simple things, a simple job and a simple relationship. However, high achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.

With expectation come struggles, endurance, challenges, but ultimately great rewards. Hard work is a necessary ingredient to succeed in our life endeavors. A lot of us are not happy right now because our dreams haven’t been fulfilled of the career we want, the kind of lifestyle we want to live, and the relationship we desire to have, all a result of not having met our expectations. But perhaps if you stick with the job you already have, accept the lifestyle you’re currently living, or finally give that woman or man that says they like you a chance, you might be completely satisfied with life. But is that throwing in the towel or just accepting the reality of your life?

As we mature in our existence, our expectations may change and hopefully with sensible high standards that may have to come with some reasonable compromise. Also realizing that consequently some of our expectations may be too high (unrealistic) and may cause our lives to be miserable trying to achieve those goals.

When good judgment of your soul becomes contagious and starts to affect your mind and your heart you should expect for God to bless you abundantly. It says in Proverbs 24:14 so shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off. What God has for you will be for you! He is listening to the desires of your heart and if it is His will than it shall come to pass. We often get frustrated when things don’t go the way we want or when we want them to. Not understanding that God is preparing us for our blessings and during our preparation, tests may come our way. In which are used to see if we really want or will take for granted the rewards He will give us. I don’t know about you but I have my armor on ready for any battles that I may face to get to my aspirations and when the battle is over you won’t see a clean combat attire but one that is banged up, torn, and maybe a little bloody. So when I’m standing in triumph, my rewards will be earned and fully appreciated. No one will be able to take that away from you or me; in fact our blessings will be able to bless others. We must remember any expectation no matter how great or small is achievable through the Grace of God.

Happy Holidays,

Happy Friday! This is just a friendly reminder of what not to have on your resume as you are trying to land that dream job!

1. Don’t put your date of birth on your resume. Believe it or not that is still a way for employers to discriminate.

2. Do not use a complicated email address. Since email is usually the first point of contact, it is wise to use firstnamelastname@domain.com if you have a personal email account that has random letters and numbers or say shawtyisatin@domain.com please leave it off. It is a turn off

3. Do not put references on your resume. Employers shouldn’t be checking your references before formally considering you. Another point about references – list ONLY those that will give you a GOOD reference. You’d be surprised how many times we call and the reference is not positive.

4. Keep the resume as close to one page as possible and free from a background design. Resume’s are meant to look generic. Your resume should go over a page if you have been working over 15-20 years at multiple facilities. Other than that compile it to one page.

5. List accolades from the last school attended. If you had perfect attendance in high school but has since went on to obtain your Ph.D PLEASE do NOT list high school accolades. A name, city/state, and completion year will do. If high school is your last school attended and it has been over 5 years don’t list accolades.

Freebie – watch signatures in email. No joke yesterday my co worker received an email and the signature line was “Hot Chocolate”…excuse me?! and you want to work where?! LOL just watch those on professional correspondence.

Until Next Time..

Be Blessed

This is one of my ABSOLUTE favorite poems. I would like to share it with you and add my own little commentary along the way. The author is unknown.

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill, (No one said it was going to be easy)
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, (There will be some trying times)
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but do not quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out; (quitting isn’t easy to a winner so hang in there)
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow. (Give it one last shot)

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out-
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, (Doubt your doubts and over come your failures)
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far, (Press towards the mark as you are almost there)
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

In the past I would find myself questioning God (the nerve of me) about why something was happening to someone else and not me. I wanted to be the victim, of what? I am not sure. I just wanted to complain and gripe because my life wasn’t going the way I’d plan. As I have grown, not merely in age but in my Christian walk, I now understand that God is no respecter of persons. He said if I’d do it for them, I’d do it for you. So the first thing we have to know God is on OUR side too.

Second rejoice for others. God many times bless us based on our attitude and outlook on the situation. I am no longer a victim but the victor! I am a child of God. I belong to the most high. When you get knocked down or caught off guard, get back up with a smile and praise that you are even able to get back up! Be thankful for the little things. The Word says if you can handle the small blessing, surly you can handle the big ones. Appreciate everything; His dying was gift enough, He owes us nothing! Encourage others when they are down, support friends when they receive good news, and offer a shoulder when the same friend needs it. I learned it’s about my attitude toward life. He can do ANYTHING for us and we can have anything we ask for (if it’s in line with His will) but if we NEVER get it, He is still worthy of praise. I had to realize that. He is a healer and a miracle worker, but if I never saw another miracle or received another blessing He is still worthy of all the praise and honor. So I encourage you to look at your attitude. Lastly – get out and do it! I hear people often say I am waiting on God to tell me what to do. Hear me carefully because I encourage people to move in Gods timing and when He say, but sometimes while we are waiting on God, He is waiting on us to make the first move. Try it, if it’s not right He will close the door. Let me leave me with the story of the three men. It’s in the Bible and we have all heard it. God gave 3 men each a talent. The first man invested his, took a risk, gambled and doubled it, the second man made a small profit as well. The third man buried his because he was scared to do anything with it and/or use it at all. The Bible says the third man was lazy and for that he took his talents and gave them to the first man. The moral is God has given us ALL talents, thoughts and ideas. Use them! Use them for his honor and glory. Don’t be scared for what He has given us shall prosper. If the boat doesn’t come to you, swim to it (don’t know how to swim, take lessonsJ). Be determined and most importantly know who is on your side. I just wanted to share this with you, until next time…

I’ve always been very self-conscious of my skin- the color; texture; clarity; evenness and overall appearance of it. I used to be a tomboy so I acquired a lot of “war wounds” which have left me quite a few scars to prove it. From scrapes to burns to rough and dark elbows and knees- I decided to take charge and take care of my skin once I became “a girl.”

I get a nice amount of compliments on my skin and its overall clear complexion. While I still have a ways to go and skin care is an ongoing process, I want to share some tips to proper skin care that I’ve picked up along the way. I’m no genius; I read plenty of magazines and taken plenty risks on acquiring “pretty skin.”

Tip 1- Keep it simple: Cocoa butter is your friend, Shea butter is Cocoa butters’ best friend; get acquainted!

What it does- Softens rough patches on your skin while evening out skin tone. They’re also good to fade stretch marks.

Tip 2- Learn your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive) and use products that cater to it.

What it does- Provides the care you need to get the skin you want.

Tip 3- Exfoliate. Get a shower gel that has exfoliating beads in it, and if your face can handle it do the same for it as well.

What it does- Removes dead and rough skin and brings forth softer and brighter skin that’ll glow.

Tip 4- Use sunscreen EVERY time you step out! (A lotion or moisturizer that has an SPF of at least 15 would also do the trick).

What it does- Protects your skin from harmful sunrays, keeps skin tone even and also serves an anti-aging regime. Sunscreen does a number of things for your skin, learn about the benefits and take heed.

Tip 5- Wash your face with more than water! Use cleansing products that tailor to whatever problem you are battling with- blackheads, pimples, acne, clogged pores; the list can go on and on.

What it does- by using cleansing products it fights the problem for you and couples well with the next tip…P.S. Don’t go to sleep with a face full of makeup on, that’s a no-no!

Tip 6- Eat right. What you put in is what you get out. Eat fried foods all day everyday and your pores will be clogged with grease. Drink plenty of water and the impurities of your skin will be flushed out creating clearer skin.

What it does- Not only will eating right help you to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it is like servicing an engine. You have to take care of your body for it to run right. Mistreat your body and skin and you’ll never get the results you want.

Tip 7- Ambi. Enough said. Like Cocoa & Shea butter, it is an evener. But Ambi has specialized products suited for brightening dark spots and evening skin tone. They have products for face and body.

What it does- Evens out skin tone and brightens skin. If used regularly and properly it will create FAST results.

Bonus Tip- Don’t be picky! Please, Please, PLEASE DO NOT PICK AT YOUR SKIN. I know it’s a nervous habit at times or you “just can’t help it,” but all it’s going to do is leave a scar and make the problem bigger. Trust me, I’d rather you sit on your hands than to pick at your skin! J
