Its time for my annual Spring Cleaning Blog! It’s the time for us to evaluate the people, obligations, commitments, and goals in our life and reevaluate what’s a priority and what’s not. The same way we go through our closets and put old sweaters away for the winter and throw away/donate outdated clothes, it’s the same way we should reassess the goals and people in our life. Everyone is not meant to go where we are going or be in our life long term, the sooner you (me) realize this the sooner we can remove dead weight and move on. So how do you know what/who needs to be removed? Well if it (person or obligation) doesn’t benefit, support, or enhance you…it might need to be removed. Only you will be able to know (and chances are you probably already know) who should or shouldn’t have the pleasure of being in your inner circle. If we know, why do we stay involved with that person or obligation? Because it is comfortable and we know what to expect! Challenge yourself to be honest with your evaluations and cut the dead weight. Not only should you cut your ties but you should draw closer to the positives and positive people on your life. Focus on them and not the negative ones and you will feel much better. Until next time…

Enjoy the one you are with whether it’s a nice dinner away or a romantic candle lit dinner at home, enjoy it! And remember men you don’t need a specific day to be romantic; we like candy and jewelry all year round *wink* and ladies don’t leave your man out, they like to be spoiled too. So the next time you are out and smell some cologne he might like or a nice shirt that may compliment his figure, get it! Oh yeah and compliment one another daily! Happy Valentines Day all!!

February is Black History Month! In this blog I will share 20 facts about African Americans who are inventors, record breakers, and firsts. The information came from www.biography.com/blackhistory/history Enjoy!

Frederick Jones invented the portable air condition which was used in WWI to keep medicine and blood serum cool.

Thomas Martin invented the fire extinguisher in 1872

Joseph Winters invented the fire escape ladder in 1878

John Love invented the pencil sharpener

Lonnie G. Johnson, an engineer for NASA invented the Super Soaker.

L.P. Ray invented the dustpan

Quincy Jones is the most Grammy nominated artist with 76 nominations and 26 awards

Beyonce Knowles won six Grammy’s in 2010 – the most won in a single night by any female artist in the history of the event.

In 1983 Jesse Jackson successfully negotiated the release of Lt. Robert O. Goodman, Jr. an African American pilot who had been shot down over Syria.

Garrett Morgan, inventor of the traffic signal, was also the first African American to own a car in Cleveland, Oh.

Condoleezza Rice entered college at 15 and was an associate professor at Stanford University by age 26

Rev. Al Sharpton preached his first sermon at the age of four.

In 2005 there were 2.4 million black military veterans, the most of any minority group

Macon Bolling Allen was the first African American to pass the bar and practice law in 1845

Tyra Banks was the first African American woman to cover GQ Magazine and Sports Illustrated swim-suite issue. She was also the first African American ever to cover Victoria’s Secret lingerie catalog.

Halle Berry became the first African American Miss World entrant in 1986

Tony Dungy became the first African American head coach to win the Super Bowl

There are many other African American firsts, inventors, and record breakers that can be researched; these are just some I found interesting. Take time to reflect on the forerunners who’ve paved the way for us today. Until next time…

It has been awhile since I have posted a blog. There has been so much going on personally that has prevented me from focusing on G.O.S.S.I.P. Sister or any extracurricular commitments like I wanted to. As many of you know my mom went into the hospital Christmas night and I am pleased to say she went home Wednesday 1/19/11. The New Year brought in mixed emotions. I was so pleased and grateful to be able to see another year, yet on pins and needles while my mom underwent another brain surgery 1/1/11. It was a very trying time for me and my siblings while my mom was in the hospital, but it was also a time to come together and strengthen relationships with family and friends. It was a time for me to lean on my husband and have him tell me everything would be okay when I needed to hear it. It was a time to hear my older brother and sister in law give words of wisdom and encouragement. It was also a time for my youngest brother (a senior in high school) to grow up and become a man fast while learning valuable life lessons.

My friends (old and new) also provide enormous encouragement. They knew when to ask about my mom and when to keep the conversation on anything but that. I love my friends and family, you all are THEE best! And let me go on record and say THANK YOU to Gossiper for holding G.O.S.S.I.P. Sister down the last month or two. Without me saying a word or asking, she took over and kept everything going. Thank you Gossiper! Happy New Year all…until next time!

Well the holidays are officially upon us. This time of year is generally approached with mixed emotions. While research shows this is the time of year majority of people are diagnosed with depression, it is also a time for happiness, cheer, giving, and sharing. While the weather in Texas could have me confused on my seasons, I am always excited for the holidays to come. Even though I give thanks everyday for everything I have, the holidays give me an excuse to be extra thankful and full of holiday cheer. I like all the togethers with family, Christmas shopping, drinking egg nog, and lighting the fireplace. Whether you are going through a difficult time or loving life, don’t forget the REAL reason for the season. Have a happy holiday season and remember its always better to give than receive.

I have to admit being married is hard work! Whoever painted it to be a picture of two people in some far away land living happily ever after, left out the part which consisted of realism. While it IS fun and exciting, it is also a full time job. I pray daily that God helps me to be the best wife I can possibly be, make the best decisions for me and my family, and be the help meet to Rob the way God designed. I have to understand anything worth having takes worth and marriage is no different. I enjoy being a wife and while it doesn’t come with an instruction book I feel I am doing a pretty good job. Communication is THE number one tool for any relationship and as long as we keep the lines of communication open I feel we will be just fine. With the holiday season is here in full effect I try to take time to reflect on the things most important to me. I love life right now and thank God for the awesome blessings He has given me. Continue following me and don’t forget to check out Gossiper’s Single & the City. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!

Is it healthy for childhood friends to become distant or even strained? I spoke (vented really) with a dear friend the other day about a friend I have had since childhood whose relationship recently became strain and a little forced. The friend I was talking to made a good point saying it is common, normal even (yet hurtful) for friends to grow distant especially if both friends are in different places in their lives. She said it doesn’t necessarily indicate a bad thing, but is usually inevitable that the dynamics of relationships change as we all grow and become involved with other relationships in our lives. So my question today is…is it common for childhood friends to grow apart? If so, is it possible for them to ever go back to the way they were? Let me know what you think. Until next time…
