Just Be Still
How many of you have a busy mind like myself? Always thinking. Always doing. Always plotting on a decision. I pray to God for direction, and then sooner than I can “Amen” I find myself thinking a mile a minute on what “I” can do to solve a problem. When I say sooner than I can say Amen, I mean it literally; I can be in mid-sentence of a prayer and my mind races off on what I’m going to do after I say “Amen” in efforts to help God “fix it.” Let me tell you a well-known secret: God don’t need my, your, or anyone’s else help.
Today after church one of my sisters in Christ was consoling me on an issue I’m dealing with and she said these key words, that even though I’ve heard before, meant so much more at that moment: Be still. Pray for direction and then be still and let God guide me. That’s my biggest problem nowadays. Then later the same evening I received an email entitled “Experience stillness,” I copied & pasted it below. Be still, my friends. Allow God to guide you. Go to Him for everything. And finally, remember, He won’t take you where His grace won’t follow. When you forget these words just say to yourself “Be still.” (Trust me- I’ve been saying that to myself all day.)
If our minds are always busy, they don’t get time to do basic maintenance √ to sort, tidy up and take out the trash. If we don’t periodically clear out space in our minds, there’s no room for new ideas to take root.
Where do you find stillness each day and each week? Plan for quiet time, relaxation and stillness daily, even if it’s only for 5 or 10 minutes.
