Tis The Season…
To be jolly fa la la la laaaa la la la la! It really is a time to be filled with laughter, peace, and thanksgiving, yet this time of year is over shadowed by what we don’t have or didn’t get. Studies have shown that the most suicide attempts are committed in December. December being National SADD Awareness Month (SADD standing for Seasonal Affective Depressive Disorder) again shows that the month the world celebrates the life of Christ is also a rough month for many people. It can become depressing and overwhelming when trying to buy the best gifts for loved ones puts you in debt, when bills are stacked to the ceiling yet you have to provide for your family, or when your child comes with a Christmas list and your job hands you a pink slip the next day, all these things are valid reason to go into a depression
With that being said – lets not forget the REAL reason for Christmas. This is not a time to focus on a big white man coming down the chimney bearing gifts, or trying to max out your credit cards. Actually its not even about getting gifts at all – when was the last time you gave gifts to your siblings/friends on YOUR birthday LOL receiving gifts is a perk done out of love by our loved ones, not out of obligation. This is a time to spread the gift of love. This is the time of year we celebrate the birth of Christ who died for our sins, Christ, who gives us a new dose of grace and mercy EVERYday. This is a time to celebrate life and the MANY blessings we have in front of us: life, health, a roof over our head, food, family, and dare I say cell phone and internet?? Those are all blessings which have been bestowed upon us by Christ. He owe us nothing yet He gives us everything our heart desires. Just because we don’t have what we want (at this moment) doesn’t mean we are not blessed beyond reason. Even if you don’t receive a material gift, you have already received the greatest gift of all – Christ’s love. This year the Hubby and I decided not to exchange gifts mainly because we have everything we need and want right now. When you find yourself wishing you had this or that – stop and immediately start counting your blessings, you’d be surprised how long the list becomes. So this Christmas I am grateful for a few gifts I’d like to share: I am grateful for my husband. God couldn’t have created a better spouse for me than him. I am grateful for family (this time last year my mom was undergoing brain surgery), I am grateful to have had the opportunity to have a home built from the ground up! And as I end the list I am grateful for my job. Many times I complain about it but it sure beat not having one at all. God is so good all the time! I would like to wish everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a BLESSED NEW YEAR!! Remember give your gifts with a joyful heart because its always a blessing to be ABLE to give then receive J until next time…
Be Blessed
