Single & The City
The tricky thing about being single is that while it is a necessary part of life it’s an exhausting one. Talking with a colleague recently she mentioned how “fun” the dating life was; I quickly replied- no it’s not! She insisted it was; I then found out she was new to the single life and I told her- just give it a couple more tries, you’ll get tired of it… Sure enough, a month later she said to me: you were right about the dating scene- it’s not that fun. Hate to say I told you so!What makes it not so fun for me after awhile is that it’s the same old thing; time after time; person after person; date after date. Time is dwindling down and so is the market! It’s a never-ending cycle of allowing yourself to be vulnerable (which is exhausting in itself and I personally don’t like it). Dating is almost like a chore: going through the motions checking each task off the list one by one; in this scenario the “task” would be a prospect.
Dating can be fun, hard, boring, pain-wrenching, or exciting; but one thing we do know is it’s definitely needed in order to learn about yourself and learn about your potential significant other.
A few tips I picked up on with dating or trying to date in my case (because I just absolutely can’t stand it) are:
Go into every situation with an open-mind
Don’t expect too much (or too little)
Have fun with it (That’s possible, right? If you have a bad experience- laugh it off and gab about it with friends to brush it off and move on.)
Pray about it (The area I’m weakest in is praying for the right person to come my way. I feel it’s kind of silly at times, or I never think to put “love” on my list of “Things to Do” for God.)
Don’t over-think it (I know women especially tend to put a lot of thought into dating a guy- Is he the one? What will my mom think? Can he do this or that? What’s his credit score? What will our wedding & kids be like? How many kids does he want?…*blank stare* All that racing through your mind after the first date?!? Ha… Stop over-thinking it!

Love it and the truth is – those are tips that every relationship should have. Even though I am married I still pray about situations (and us) and have to keep an open mind, so those tips go further than dating!
