Bucket Of Crabs

We have all heard the story of the bucket of crabs, how as soon as one makes it close to the top others pull him back down. The sad truth is that this story doesn’t only apply to the shellfish but many times to us. Have you noticed that every time you try to better yourself or situation someone quickly comes with negativity? They place doubt in your mind how its not going to or shouldn’t work. The Bible tells us that Satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy. It may not be a physically killing or stealing, but if someone can rob you of your joy, they have stolen it. If a person speaks negatively against your character, they are destroying your name.

We may never know why people take on the role of the crabs at the bottom of the bucket. It could be jealousy, ignorance, or the fact that they have decided to never move forward or progress so they want to hold you back as well. What ever the reason, it doesn’t excuse the act. It is not okay for anyone to hold another person back. We should continue to uplift our brothers and sisters and encourage them when they fall short. It is our (Christians) responsibility to be our brothers and sisters keeper. Its up to us to reach back and help them out of their situation (as best as possible) and see to it they move forward.

This situation has always bothered me personally. I have always felt others opinions of me don’t have to be my reality if I don’t want it to be. I have the right to pick and choose what I allow to determine my destiny. When others come around with negativity trying to hold me back, I quickly determine they are at the bottom of the bucket which makes me push harder towards my goals. Its one thing for a person to tell you the truth and another for someone to hold you back. Recognize these people as crabs at the bottom and continue to press towards your goal. Until next time…

Be Blessed
