Single & The City

Subject: The Grinch Who Stole…Everything!

Well, we have a triple whammy coming up. Alert the masses! *over the intercom* “ALL SINGLE LADIES! ALL SINGLE LADIES! PUT YOUR HANDS UP AND REPORT TO YOUR GRAVES!” That’s right- holiday season is in full effect! Thanksgiving gets a slight pass since no gift-giving is involved, but not really for me because not only do I not have a significant other, but I don’t have any family out here to eat, drink, and be merry with. Then followed by Christmas; turn the knife why don’t ya?! And do I even have to mention Valentine’s Day?!! Pull the knife out my heart and just shoot me already! *shaking my head* How will I live? *giggle* Dramatic? Yes. Crazy? No. I’m sure holidays effect my fellow singles out there (don’t leave me hanging!) Family or not, is there a sense of emptiness particularly when it comes to holidays? I think it’s the gift-giving part or maybe the sappy romance movies & songs flooding the airwaves. Holidays are filled with love, so what’s a single lady (or fellas, if ya’ll feel me too) to do? Brings me to my next point/topic…

At my homecoming that just passed I overheard some friends chatting about how everyone is having kids and getting married and having kids (whichever order you want to pick), and it’s true; as we get older real life kicks into gear. One of my friends said to the other “well, are you going to get married for real or you just going to do it just to be getting married?” Something to that nature… I just shook my head and laughed, but then after deep thought it wasn’t funny anymore. So you mean to tell me people are just getting married out of convenience or settling purposes, or because it’s “about that time” according to our internal clock? How does that work? I know a few other single ladies besides myself who aren’t going to go for that! No ma’am! No sir! I guess it all goes back to what we’re dating for. What you’re dating for ties into what you’re looking for, and what you’re looking for ultimately leads to what or who you’ll marry. Some people have exceptions to the rule, others do not. I for one- do not! No exceptions! It would be the death of me to accept anything less than the best. And NO, I am not meaning the best in the world ( I don’t know if that even exists) but the best complement for me, whatever and whoever suits me best.

So I guess until I get over myself I will continue to be The Grinch Who Stole…Everything!

In the meantime…

Still Single,

Gossiper
