Be Healthy!
I believe physical health and spiritual health go hand in hand. While we all know it is VERY important to be healthy in the spirit, we must also be healthy physically so that we can spread God’s good word here on earth. The Bible tells us our body is a temple and should be treated as such. Here are a few tips and habits I found interesting as I was reading www.tastyhuman.com of course I did a little research and added my own two cents, enjoy!
- Cold shower in the morning – Cold water increases blood circulation throughout the body. You will become more coldproof – meaning, you’ll have fewer chances to catch a cold or flu. Moreover, it is good for your hair and skin – cold water closes pores, and makes skin more resilient.
- Get enough sleep – it helps restore our physical body and is also good for the psychological mind state.
- Walk as much as possible – you can do little things like parking further in the grocery store lot. It may not seem like a lot but due to our passive lifestyle every opportunity to work the total body is great! According to the American Heart Association – 10,000-12,000 steps per day is just as good as running or riding a bike for 60 minutes.
- Drink natural drinks – water, green tea, fresh squeezed juice. These will help build your immune system and aid in the fight against colds and other viruses. Carbonated drinks are full of sugar and have no nutritional value.
- Stretch in the morning – stretching warms muscles and increase blood flow. Research has also found that stretching (a light exercise like yoga) increases mental acuity – nice!
- WASH HANDS REGULARLY!! Hand washing is a simple yet important technique that can help fight infections like the common cold and flu to preventing warms. FACT – you pass more germs shaking hands than you do by kissing. Make sure you wash your hands as often as possible or at least carry hand sanitizer with you.
- Relax while eating – research shows, those who relax while eating tend to eat slower. This lets the stomach to break down food for digestion better and allow it to receive more nutrients.
- Have fun – smiling and laughter is good for our mental state (the soul) and we all know that mental problems can cause physical problems. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Surround yourself with fun hobbies and people to balance your work/play life. Laughter can also increase blood flow.
- Wear sun screen – skin cancer is the most common cancer in America. Whether you are White, Black, Hispanic, or any other nationality wear sun screen when going out. Cancer is not biased and any one can get it.
In addition to researching the above – I also found that drinking cold water helps you burn calories because your body has to work harder to warm it up to your natural body temperature (usually 98 degrees). So if you are trying to lose weight add coldwater to your regimen. Flossing regularly (once a day) can help prevent gingivitis and other more serious healthcare complication. And lastly if cancer runs in your family – drink tea. Tea has been shown to help alleviate or decrease cancerous cells in the body. Until next time…
