Gluttony
Here lately I have been obsessed with the Seven Deadly Sins. I want to share with you what I have found out about gluttony which is pretty interesting. In the past people have referred to gluttony as the act of over eating. One who consumes too much food is said to be a glutton. Gluttony can be over eating but the fact is gluttony is the accumulation of things. It doesn’t mean food only. Proverbs 28:7 declares, “He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.” It’s the inability to control oneself or resist temptation (of overly consuming something). It’s a selfish act. As I type this blog I think about my grandmother. My grandma is such a funny and spiritual woman. She is 78 years young J. In the day she was a sharp dresser and turned heads often with her 4 foot 8 inch petite frame. Honestly, I KNOW my grandmother has over 100 pair of high heel shoes. Now if she was wearing them, fine. But the reality is she probably hasn’t worn 50 of those 100 in the last 10-15 years, yet still buys shoes! This is considered a glutton. She is not using them, yet she is not helping others either. Imagine what a blessing it would be for both the giver and the receiver if she donated half of those shoes to a charity. Harboring the items collected serves no benefit to anyone.
What “things” are you harboring that can help someone else? If you are a size 12 and you have a closet full of 6’s because one day you will be back in a 6, donate them. By the time you get there we will be in a different fashion era so might as well let someone else use them. From shoes, purses, clothes, food, anything you are regularly over indulging in, stop and ask yourself if you are a glutton. Being a glutton can also cause clutter (depending on what you are consuming). Clutter is not good for the mind or spiritual well being. Remember there is no one sin greater than the other. God despises them all. He said when you did it to my least one, you did it to me. So if you have things that you no longer use, give them to someone who can use them. Don’t be a glutton. This was an eye opener for me as I never looked at gluttony outside of food and now have some things I need to get rid of. What are other things outside of food that can be over indulged in and considered gluttony? Until next time…

Good post. It reminds people that everything shouldn’t be taken literally and gluttony can have many connotations.
