ENCOURAGING YOURSELF!

While we are living in this recession or what I call depression it is important that we know who WE are. I, like many others, have found myself down and out sometimes over situations life brings. Satan is BUSY!!! He wants to take us out whether it is mentally, physically, or emotionally. Sometimes I would call and talk with my mom, friends, or my significant other but what happens when they are no where around for me to vent to? What do you do then? In times like that I had to learn to encourage myself. Sometimes, believe it or not, God will harden others hearts (people that are close to you) to draw you closer to him.

When all else fails and you have no where else to go, seek him and encourage yourself. The Bible tells us that David encouraged himself. He danced, sang songs, read scriptures and most importantly prayed. He prayed and prayed. Although David committed adultery, killed, and lied, the Bible says he was a man after God’s own heart. He developed a relationship with God and that’s what God wants from us. He is not as concerned as much with religion as he is with relationship. He is a reader of the heart not of the religion we belong to. Being associated with a religion is great and needed, but don’t forget about the relationship. I don’t mean to offend anyone reading this blog. When it begin to look bad – and it will – know that YOU can do it. One time I asked this preacher to pray for me when I was going through some things at a certain time in my life and he said “NO”. I thought that is the rudest thing I had ever heard a preacher say! He said I won’t pray for you because you can pray for yourself. He said many times we sit around waiting on others to pray for us, or give us an encouraging word and WE can do it ourselves! We, as Christians, ALL have the power of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in us. We can claim victory, prosperity, or any other prayer we ask. WE have to know that when faced against a difficult situation or no one else is available, friends are gone, it is then up to US to keep on encouraging ourselves and remember God’s promises. Sing songs, pray, or read the Word when you need a pick-me-upper! Lights may be off, phone off, friends turned away, job gone, car repo’d, but remember this too shall pass. Encourage and remind yourself that this is a test and GOD is STILL an awesome God that wouldn’t allow you to go through any of it if it wasn’t for His purpose. Don’t get caught up in the right now but remember your purpose and the goals you have for fulfilling them. Continue to press towards the mark as the Word instructs us to and don’t lose faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Don’t lose faith. Pray and rejoice even when you don’t feel like it. Speak out favor over your life. Speak positive because there is power in words. Believe that you can do and do it. Change your thinking to reflect this is only a test, this is not my end! The Bible says “…as a man thinketh, so is he.” Tell yourself that you WILL get through this. Make a choice to rejoice in the midst of your storm. It may sound funny but while you are going through, encourage someone else, it will feel wonderful! I have to CONSTANTLY encourage myself. While reading the blogs and comments left – I love the fact we are encouraging one another and want to remind everyone to also encourage yourself and develop a relationship with Him. You CAN and WILL get through it! Until next time…

Be Blessed
