Thrifty Tips for Recession Proof Fab!!
The recession is starting to affect everyone-including me. I noted a week ago I was moving and now that I am trying to preserve money, my question is how can I stay fab during the recession? Well I have done some research and would like to share. First – IF you are still shopping recreationally, don’t be scared to utilize bargains. For clothes, shoes, and accessories – many stores will offer sale and clearance sections. Utilize these sections and take advantage of the discounts. Many of the same stores will have different offers if you purchase online. Visit vintage shops and thrift stores or nearly new shops; you never know what you might find in there. Keep an open mind when shopping outside of your normal stores or shops. Exchange clothes with friends, which is an interesting way to get rid of some items you are not using and gain new material. Last but not least go through your OWN closet. Anything you haven’t worn in a while, bring it to the front. Buy a new necklace or some earrings to accent it and put it to use!
Hair – instead of going to the shop 2-4 times per month, invest in some good hair care products and the right curlers for your hair style and do it yourself! It may take a while to get it looking like the shop but practice, after all if something was to happen to your stylist you want to be able to survive. Only utilize the shop when necessary i.e. obtaining a perm, cut, color but for a shampoo and style – do it yourself! In no time you will be a pro and able to even jazz it up every now and them.
Pedicures can also be done by YOU! Purchase a foot soaker or if we are being really thrifty – a basin. Fill it with some warm/hot water, add your favorite scented soap, burn some fragrant candles and just relax. Once you finish soaking your feet, wash/scrub and lotion them, add your polish and a top coat (helps with chipping) and you are done!
Additional tips – purchase a Sunday’s newspaper and use the coupons. Most of the coupons are for groceries and toiletries, but hey, that comes in handy. To earn a little cash here and there, sell items you no longer use on Craigslist (its free), eBay, or have a garage sale. Sign up for market research firms in the area who pay YOU for your opinion – I do that often. It usually pays $50+ for 60 minutes…not bad!
And with anything – pray and continue to seek Gods guidance during this recession, and ask he provide you with everything you need. Fell free to share your tips here as well as the forum and until next time…
Be Blessed!

It was said that the one good thing that has come from this recession, is people are getting back to traditional money values—saving for major purchases, getting out of debt and living within their means.
I agree with this post, but it is sad that it is needed in the first place.
