Preserve The Swagger

“No one on the corner has swagger like us!” But wait, what is swagger?! It’s a persona. The way you walk, talk, and dress. It’s how you carry yourself; and in the fashion sense it’s the way you wear your clothes and at the same time how your clothes wear you! So how to preserve your swagger without looking like everyone else?  I suggest looking at fashion magazines and seeing what’s in or out, and also look at your peers to see what works and how you can make it work for you. Not every style is for everybody! Take a trend and make subtle changes to it so you won’t look like a carbon copy of the other 15 girls in the building around you that have layered on accessories, animal prints, tights, and/or high waist minis.  I think the best swagger steps in when you have taken a trend and made it your own. Looking different is always fun, but don’t go too far! Also, I’m learning there’s no need to go broke over getting the latest and greatest trend (that’s only going to last 15 minutes). Upgrade your wardrobe by adding new pieces to old pieces. New accessories, like a waist belt or pair of high heels, can make an outfit look like new. Buy essentials like camisoles (cami’s), and layering tees in different colors to refresh an old pair of jeans that you absolutely love and don’t see a need to get rid of. When you go shopping keep in mind the articles of clothing already in your closet that you don’t want to get rid of yet. Find new things that can spice up or compliment those pieces of clothing, by doing so can make you feel and look like new! If you have the urge to splurge, do so smartly (if there is such a thing). Splurge on a long-lasting article of clothing, like a good pair of shoes, nice fitting pair of pants, or even a necklace. One single thing can be timeless, and yet, a great addition to your look of the day or night. My favorite secret *(that was more attainable while living in California)* is find a boutique that you like to shop in opposed to going to department stores or over-publicized  stores. You’ll find more one-of-a-kind pieces of clothes there and it adds a great splash of originality to an ordinary trend. If you don’t live in a city that has an exclusive boutique you like, I endorse online shopping! Before I conclude, I must throw in: please keep it classy! If you have to tug at your clothes all night to keep them covering your unmentionables or if you should be tugging at them- then you shouldn’t have it on!!! If your clothes are so tight that they look painted on and you are going to burst out of them at any given time, then let’s face it- you shouldn’t have it on!!! I can’t wait until dressing like a lady is in style vs. dressing like a video vixen! It’s okay to be sexy, but always keep it classy (not trashy). Last but not least, a huge part of preserving the swagger and the most important is: ATTITUDE, duh!!! :-) Be confident, have a positive attitude, be fun, and rock it!
